Pulitzer Prize winning “Foreign Affairs”

16 Jun

I was captivated by the delicacy and nuance of Alison Lurie’s prize winning novel – filled with wit and humor and beautifully realized details in this story of two American professors in London. The charm of this is in every word – quietly but vividly told, calm and unhurried. The plot itself is simply the characters’ experience, but the joy here is in the writing. I tend to be a gluttonous reader, moving quickly through books, but this one had me lingering over every description and thought, like savoring a cup of hot tea and the perfect butter cookie nibble by nibble. Discovering Alison Lurie as a writer is a treat – I will have to find and slowly savor her many other novels.
