Hawk Quest

14 Mar

Hawk Quest is a sweeping novel set in 11th century Europe, which follows an engaging cast of characters as they survive (or not…) the epic tribulations required to capture and deliver a white hawk to save a captured knight.  The author clearly is well versed in a variety of subjects, as his grasp of detailed subjects, from hawk behavior to seamanship to 11th c history, is borne out in realistic descriptions. Akin to Game of Thrones in its reach, Hawk Quest distinguishes itself by its realism and historical accuracy, rather than adding a fantasy element to the story. Initially, it was a little difficult to connect, but once I got into it, it became clear that this is the kind of book that it is hard to stop reading. Deeply satisfying – hoping to see more of their adventures if there are meant to be sequels.
